The Sylhet Medical University Bill, 2018 was placed in Parliament on Monday to set up a medical university in Sylhet division for expanding higher education and research on medical education and medicare.

State minister for health and family welfare Zahed Malek, in absence of health minister Mohammad Nasim, placed the bill and it was sent to the respective scrutiny committee for further examination. The committee was asked to submit its report within 30 days.

The proposed university will be a full-fledged medical one and it will be established as part of the government’s plan to set up medical university in each division in phases.
According to the proposed law, all the medical and dental colleges and nursing institutes in Sylhet division will get affiliated with Sylhet Medical University.
